Centralia Historical Society met Tuesday night, April 19th at the Centralia Museum.
Marjorie Motley welcomed members to the 42nd Annual meeting. Carolyn Dawson, President of the Board conducted the business session. Dawson thanked three retiring Board members, Amy Hopkins, Kelly Dickerson and Marilyn Dick for their service. Three new board members, Jim Lee, Linda Benoit and Kathy Colvin were selected for 2016-17. Marjorie Motley gave highlights of the past year which showcased People, Places and Possessions. The Quilt show drew 340 visitors with 118 items displayed.
1285 people toured the Museum last year, representing 17 states and 3 foreign countries. 110 5th grade students with their teachers also toured the Museum as an educational history project. Centralia Gardens and Museum were on bus tours of State Master Gardeners and Jefferson City Senior Living events.
The theme for this year is “Show up and Be Seen in 2016”. Favorite collections of people in the community will be displayed including Collector Plates, Insulators, Norman Rockwell, Roosters, Ashtrays/lighters, Birds, pitchers, teapots, shot glasses, and a miniature shoe collection. New acquisitions and artifacts are displayed in the basement. The table is set and ready for tours starting Sunday, May 1st, 2016.
In September, Political/patriotic memorabilia will be shown through the election in November. The Museum will be closed after November 9th, to decorate for Christmas open houses.
The Centralia Museum will be open for tours on Sunday and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m.
